Two pedestrian streets cut across Copenhagen's city center: Købmagergade and Strøget. These streets are the city center's "mall." However instead of an isolated mega-structure surrounded by never-ending parking lots, Købmagergade and Strøget are fully connected to the city's fabric. They're flexible. As online shopping continues to cause store closures, these streets can seamlessly adapt by incorporating more offices, restaurants, and residences.

I don't like malls. I don't like how they suck up all the shops into one giant building. I don't like how they turn their backs to their surroundings. I much prefer a district like Købmagergade and Strøget streets. However to give a fair representation of Copenhagen: there is mall. Fortunately it's outside the city center in a newer part of town.

Købmagergade and Strøget have the character of historic streets, bending and turning at random. Squares relieve long narrow stretches. Churches allay repetitive store frontage. Towers accent the skyline. There's just enough variation to slay monotony. Just enough to make for an enjoyable stroll.

Rundetaarn (round tower) is one of the largest towers along Købmagergade. A continuous spiral ramp makes for an easy climb to the top. The tower provides a decent view of the corridor and only an okay view of the city.
